February 18, 2016 - DCCC Speed Dating - NVDC joined other Democratic Clubs in interviewing candidates from Assembly District 17 for the San Francisco Democratic County Central Committee.   Our members got to enter the line-up of candidates and spend 2 minutes with each one before the bell rang to send each of us off to our next "date."  By the end of the evening, many of us had identified candidates we thought deserved our vote this June.

October 21, 2015 - Election Preview with Melissa Griffin Caen – this prominent political writer and commentator talked about what to expect from the up-coming election.

May 20, 2015 - The Short-Term Rental Controversy - a debate controversial subject of home sharing, short-term rentals, and the AirBnB law.

March 18, 2015 - Election of officers followed by Campaign Consultant Jim Ross speaking about what to expect in 2015 and beyond.

November 20, 2014 -  Election Recap with Corey Cook - election review and analysis from the well known political pundit and media commentator.  

October 15, 2014 - The Middle East Conundrum - Dr Lucia Volk, Author and Professor of Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies at S. F. State, gave a fascinating talk on the politics, culture and religion of the Middle East.  Her deep insight into her subject answered some interesting questions such as why so many terrorists are engineers and scientists.  

September 10, 2014 - The Endorsement meeting - The club's endorsements for the November election were decided.

August 12, 2014 - Annual Summer Party and Fundraiser - A number of local political eminences joined us for conversation and networking - among them David Chiu, Scott Wiener, Jeff Adachi, Mark Murphy, Jose Cisneros and Ross Mirkarimi.  Auction items included lunches with Bevan Dufty, George Gascon and Mark Leno.  Other sponsors for this year’s event were Dennis Herrera, Phil Ting, Tom Ammiano, Mark Farrell, Zoe Dunning, Mark Leno, Raphael Mandelman, Emily Murase  and Rachael Norton.

July 21, 2014  - Mark Farrell, District 2 Supervisor and Chairman of the Budget Committee of the Board of Supervisors gave a very interesting talk about the city’s budgeting process, how competing constituencies are dealt with, the size of the budget (somewhat surprising), how much of it is discretionary, and some experiences he’s had as chairman of the committee.

June, 2014 - Post Election Wrap-up - An analysis of the results of the June 3 primary election.

May 14, 2014 - Homelessness in San Francisco - a very lively presentation by SF's leading experts on the problems of and solutions to homelessness.  The panelists were Bevan Dufty, Director of San Francisco's Housing Opportunity, Partnerships and Engagement; Dr. Kim Norman from the Department of Psychiatry at UCSF; Jennifer Friedenbach, Director of the Coalition on Homelessness; and Todd Leachman, a formerly homeless single father.

March 19, 2014 - Affordable Housing in San Francisco - A distinguished and authoritative panel of experts discussed the affordable housing situation, it's causes and effects and possible solutuins in the Bay Area and especially in San Francisco.  

February 13, 2014 - Annual Member Appreciation Party - an evening of food, drinks, political gossip and hob-nobbing with local elected leaders.

December 8, 2013 - Annual Holiday Party - NVDC members and prospective members were joined by our usual guests including Mark Leno, Scott Wiener, Jose Cisneros, Rafael Mandelman and others, who shared interesting stories, insights, and other pearls of political wisdom.

December 5, 2013 - Is There Hope for CCSF - a Special Meeting with the New Chancellor - the issues confronting CityCollege and its prospects in the accreditation debacle.  

November 2013 - An Expert’s View of the Recent Elections and their significance for 2014 and beyond - with San Francisco Campaign Manager and Consultant Eric Jaye.

August 2013 - Annual Summer Party and Fundraiser - at which we nosh and nip with elected officials and other big shots, and auction some of them off as lunch hosts or tour guides.

July 2013 - Obamacare - a program about the specifics of the new exchanges, the law’s likely effect on seniors, and the uninsured, and Federal reforms in relation to San Francisco’s existing health plans.

June  2013 - Update and Debate - A debate on the controversial 8 Washington Waterfront Development project followed by a discussion with Scott Wiener covering city transportation, housing and public space issues, the Noe Valley Town Square project, the renovation of  Noe Courts, 8 Washington, and the Warriors Arena.

May 2013 - Boom: What’s Happening with the S.F. Economy - A forum on economic growth and the resulting housing ramifications in the Bay Area.

February 2013 - First Annual Member Appreciation Party at the home of Hunter and Jill Stern - hors d’oeuvres and drinks with a very engaging crowd of members, prospective members, and well-known politicos.

January 2013 - David Binder, lead qualitative research consultant for the 2008 and 2012 Obama campaigns - a fascinating presentation on the research and psychology behind the Obama campaign’s messaging phenomenon.
